....exploring the planet's ecosystems
One of the megadiverse countries in the world, and one of the few that straddles different biogeographical regions...
I visisted this megadivers country in 2024, and spent almost a month driving around. I stuck to the safer states, and the most dangerous thing in the country was me in a car. I will try and add more to this page in late 2025! There is so much to say. It was my first big trip after covid.
Mexico is notable for it's diversity in places and species., so it takes more than one trip to do it justice. In almost a month, I visited a good range of national parks and cultural sites. I wasn't very efficient and it was exhausting, but I saw a lot. The country has a lot of Neotropical seasonal dry 'rainforest' which I have included on that page. In the dry season, this seems like a dead habitat, but there is a high species diversity here, and some spectacular birds. The country also offers habitats that are more North American in composition, such as the pleasant higher altitude Nearctic Madrean Pine-Oak Woodland. When I was here, one of the best places I stayed at was Refugio Terraza de la Tierra.
