a field guide to the planet - by Damon Ramsey
The mammals of the open tropical oceans of the world...
Stenella longirostris, 'Spinner Dolphin' (Papua New Guinea). This species probably includes many species; as the very least there are many distinct forms around the world. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, far away from land, I have seen very tiny forms of Spinner Dolphins.
Megaptera novaeangliae, 'Humpback Whale' (Kimberley coast, Australia).
Thinking of travelling again after everything settles down? One of the first expeditions I am booked to work on is the NZ sub-Antarctics with Silversea Expeditions and Australia with Coral Expeditions. And here is a shortened version of one of my lectures in a warmer part of the world.
