Celebrity X Cruises

personal experience...

I worked on with Celebrity X Cruises for several seasons during the years 2007 -2009. I was on board two cruise ships: Mercury and Millenium. Both ships held between 1000 and 1500 people. I worked as a guest lecturer. It was a pretty cool gig.

cruises ships...

These are large cruises ships, and I guess most cruise ships are fairly similar. They are more about the on board experience, which can be fun; there is a shopping arcade, theatre (which seats maybe 700 people; this is where I gave lectures), great big gym, and various restaurants and cafes. So you have a whole ship to run around on.

They are probably not so much for the naturalist or adventurer, as it is not a expedition or small tour experince. Also, for most of the ports that you visit you are limited to the time you spend there. Precious time is chewed up going through secutiry getting off and back on the ship. However, such cruise ships, because of their size, can cross great distances and go to places, such as French Polynesia, that would take far too long on smaller expedition style ships.

Celebrity X have a whole fleet of ships that travel to all sorts of destinations around the world. Some trips can go for very cheap, especially the 're-positioning' trips.

It is a good experience just to go try a cruise once to see what it is like...I would recommend places that are trickier to get to or see via land, such as Polynesia, etc.
