Cassowary

Even though the Cassowary is the largest animal in the raimforest, the heaviest bird in Australia, and colourful, it is surprisingly hard to see

where can I see cassowary in the wild?

The best option for finding cassowary is to go to a garden, carpark, or accommodation where they are known to frequent and just wait.

Accommodations are good, as you can on the prioch and have a cuppa while you wait.

The best places are:

Etty bay caravan park. This is the best spot. There are often two individuals that patrol this beach. If you wait here long enough, you will see a cassowary.

Cassowary House. It's all in the name, really. Also good a for a range of other birds and Musky Rat Kangaroo.

Epiphyte Lodge. In the Daintree, north of the river. A quiet little B'n B that has a family of cassowary visit the gardens regularly.

Below is a chapter from the Ecosystem Guides documentary "Ancestral Jungle". This section shows how and where to find cassowary.

For more information on cassowaries and other rainforest birds, refer to the Ecosystem Guides book: "Tropical Rainforest of Australia".
