Cairns - the centre of tropical Australia
Cairns is the jumping off point for exploring the ecosystems and wildlife of tropical Australia: coral reefs, tropical rainforests, mangroves and savanna. The town itself offers a lot, too, from cafes and beaches, to wildlife in her botanical gardens...
my personal experience....I live in Cairns. Or I should say my 'base' is in Cairns, as I spend most of my working life away from the area. But this means that when I come back, I see it through the eyes of a tourist, and I never get sick of the city and its surrounding areas.
I moved here, like many naturalists and biologists, because I was attracted by the natural beauty and diversity of the area. I see something new in the surounding coral reefs or rainforest everytime I go there...
